Perch Base held its Annual Picnic meeting on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Paloma Community Park in Peoria, AZ.
We had a special guest, Davy Jones, who hadn't been able to make it to a meeting in quite some time.
Many of the side-dishes and desserts were brought in by the membership, but the "duty chef," Stan Reinhold, who has a food handling license, cooked the burgers and hotdogs. Our Perch Base Chief of the Boat (COB,) Don Robertson also "mess cranked" for Stan. Special thanks to both Stan and Don for their contribution to the success of the picnic. The desserts included a cake celebrating the 125th year of the Submarine Service.
During the meeting, our newly elected Base Commander, David Heighway, led the Pledge of Allegiance and read the USSVI purpose. David Heighway introduced our visitors, including members from Tucson Base and White Mountain Base. David also read the Tolling of the Boats Ceremony for the boats lost in April.
A Holland Club Induction Ceremony was conducted by our Past Commander George Woods and Base Commander Dave Heighway. The ceremony, which recognizes 50 years being Qualified in Submarines, inducted Pat Habel, Duane Kanitz and Joe Trotter.
Special thanks to Paul Miller and David Heighway for providing most of the photos, since Dan Marks, the Webmaster, was late arriving due to shuttling Davy Jones from his assisted living facility to the Annual Picnic.
