Perch Base took the USS Phoenix float up to Prescott, Arizona on July 1st, 2023, for the Prescott Frontier Days® Parade. The parade had many entries and a very large crowd to watch the parade. We were in the parade with Gudgeon Base. Tucson Base also was there with their USS Tucson (SSN-770) submarine float. Members and family rode or walked in the parade from the 3 bases!
The 2023 Parade Theme was "DANCES WITH BULLS."
After the parade, we had a BBQ lunch at Sherry and Tom Warner's home in Prescott Valley.

It is not uncommon that when people learn that we are submariners, they tip their hats and say, "I couldn't do what you did." But as submariners, we tip our hats to these guys, perhaps the most important parade entry:

As stated by Governor Katie Hobbs the day prior to the parade, on June 30, "Ten years ago, our lives forever changed when 19 men selflessly answered the call to protect the people of Yarnell and Peeples Valley. With each year that passes, our admiration for the Granite Mountain Hotshots endures and their memory will forever live on."
As shown in this photo, the Perch Base USS Phoenix (SSN-702) float displayed a memorial that "We Honor and We'll Remember" the Granite Mountain Hotshots.

Sixteen Perch Base members and family attended the parade. Although not all are shown in these photos, the complete list is included in the Sailing List link at the bottom of this webpage.

And one more time, just in case someone blinked or their hat was covering their face.

The USS Tucson (SSN-770) float and their Tucson Base "people trailer" led our Submarine Veterans, followed by the Gudgeon Base "People Trailer,", then the Perch Base USS Phoenix (SSN-702) float and the Perch Base "People Trailer."

Sorry, but we have no pictures of the BBQ lunch this year. Thanks to Tom & Sherry Warner for inviting us to join them at the BBQ.
