Perch Base USSVI participated in the Memorial Day Ceremonies at the National Cemetery of Arizona, including Tolling of the Boats, on Monday, May 29, 2023.
Carl Miner and Dan Marks placed the wreaths for the Submarine Veterans of WW2 and the Perch Base Submarine Veterans at the Memorial Day ceremony. Governor Joy and Howard Doyle conducted the Tolling of the Boats ceremony. The following photos are from the both the Memorial Day Ceremony and the Tolling of the Boats.

Dignitaries on stage included Capt. Pete Lumianski (ret) in front center of photo. Pete is the Executive Director of the USS Phoenix (SSN-702) Cold War Foundation. Immediately behind and to the left of Pete is our Perch Base Chaplain, Past Commander, Holland Club and Life member Jim Denzien.

After the main ceremony, Perch Base conducted the Tolling of the Lost Boats Ceremony at the Mark 18 Torpedo Monument in the Purple Heart Circle. The Mark 18 Torpedo Monument was placed by the U.S. Submarine Veterans of World War II. Special thanks to Bob Gilmore who polished up the torpedo earlier in the week.
