I was honored to meet and go to dinner with WWII Submarine Veteran Maury Wortham, Capt USN (Ret). Maury served on the USS Haddo, SS-255, as a Chief Hospital Corpsman, HMC(ss). He qualified and served on the Haddo for war patrols 8, 9 and 10. After the war was over, he completed his college and training to become a dentist, and then returned to the Navy as a Medical Officer and served on the submarine tender USS Simon Lake, AS-33, and retired as a Captain from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California as the senior dental officer in 1977. He is 100 years old and told sea stories during our dinner with his son, George. He is a Holland Club member and Life Member at the Mare Island Base.
